Composting

Council approved to develop an organic waste recovery initiative through the introduction of a pilot program in partnership with Food Cycle Science, using FoodCyclerâ„¢ technology.

Council approved the municipality's subsidized purchase of 100 FoodCycler™ from service delivery funds.

The municipality subsidized the cost of $125 per unit (plus shipping costs). Using this model, residents can purchase a $500 Foodcycler at a reduced price of $175. Residents can keep the FoodCycler at the end of the pilot program and continue to divert their food waste.

This pilot program has several benefits for East Hawkesbury, including the opportunity to test a home-based food waste diversion solution at a cost well below market prices, reducing food waste sent to the landfill, which supports local climate change goals, and offering new technology to residents at an affordable price.
